Pre-requisites
The Exchange 2000 requires knowledge and functionality of the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system, particularly of the Active Directory directory service.

Target Audience
Exchange 2000 is designed for both IT professionals who are new to the product and those who have experience with Exchange Server 5.0 or Exchange Server 5.5.

This curriculum is intended for IT professionals who need to develop the skills needed to design and support Exchange 2000. This audience includes:

IT professionals with or without other messaging product support backgrounds.

Senior IT professionals with a messaging background. These individuals plan deployments in addition to other responsibilities.

Senior IT professionals and enterprise architects with a messaging background who want to grow into a new career as enterprise architects for Exchange 2000. Enterprise architects are responsible for planning and designing a network’s messaging infrastructure.

Provide knowledge and skills required to install and administer Exchange 2000 in medium and large organizations that consist of multiple physical locations and operate in a mixed client environment. This course will provide students with the skills needed to implement Exchange 2000 design and deployment plans, install servers, create administrative and routing groups, create policies, manage recipient objects, and set permissions on public folders.

  • Exchange 2000 and how Exchange 2000 integrates with Windows 2000.
  • Preparing for and installing Exchange 2000.
  • Assigning administrative roles to users and groups, granting and delegating permissions to administrators, managing administrative permissions, and using system policies to manage Exchange 2000 objects.
  • Creating and managing storage groups and stores.
  • Creating and managing public folders.
  • Configuring recipients with multiple SMTP addresses.
  • Configuring an SMTP virtual server and an SMTP connector.

Candidates for this course operate in medium or large environments that typically have multiple physical locations, mixed client connection protocols, and Internet messaging connectivity. Students will develop the skills needed to identify organizational and client needs, understand the existing network infrastructure, and create an Exchange 2000 design plan.

Description
This course prepares senior IT professionals, consultants, and architects to deploy Exchange 2000 organizations. Candidates for this course operate in medium or large environments that typically have multiple physical locations, mixed client connection protocols, and Internet messaging connectivity. Students will develop the skills needed to populate Active Directory with information from a previous installation of Exchange, prepare coexistence and upgrade plans for Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 migrations, and create an Exchange 2000 deployment plan.

Course Contents

  • Determine which tool to use in order to populate Active Directory with information from Exchange 5.5 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
  • Planning an Active Directory Connector (ADC) connection agreement.
  • Establishing coexistence of Exchange 2000 with Exchange Server 5.5.
  • Upgrading or migrating an existing Exchange Server 5.5 organization to Exchange 2000.
  • Planning inter-organizational connectivity and synchronization.
